At the end of the year, it's always nice to look back and see how far you come before looking forward to where you might go.
At Get Gorgeous Salon, we have said goodbye to Kiara and Australia, and welcomed Trenice and Sandy Mai to the team. In June, we celebrated 9 years of business! This fall, we once again participated in the Selby Ave JazzFest. We've met new clients and friends throughout the year, and helped support each other against this year of celebrity deaths (with the deaths of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds just this week), and a rocky election season .
Looking towards the future, we are excited to be celebrating 10 years in business this June. With 80% of business failing withing the first 18 months, and 96% failing withing their first 10 years, this is an amazing accomplishment. Ilka has truly beaten the odds!
Part of her success is that Ilka foresaw Selby Ave becoming a new Grand Ave and this has really taken off in 2016. Whole Foods opened up down the road at Snelling/Selby. Our neighborhood near the salon is also transforming with newly renovated homes and apartments for sale and rent. The corner businesses at Victoria/Selby have changed hands. Tori Ramen has moved into what used to be Lee & Dee's BBQ and are serving pork free ramen dishes. J. Selby's is a plant based eatery looking to open in early 2017 in the storefront formerly shared by the corner store and the weave shop.
With these new business, parking might be more challenging during 2017 as we learn to share the street parking on Selby. However, with more traffic to our area we are gearing up for a busy year with a lot of opportunities ahead. Get Gorgeous is looking to run with progress to higher levels of success rather than being run over!
